Veteran Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, aka Charly Boy or Area Fada has stated his reason for supporting the presidential candidate of the Labour Party( LP), Peter Obi.

Naija News reports that the activist told Daily Post that all his life as an activist, he has never come out to support any political candidate, but it has now become necessary to do so because of the future of Nigerian youths.

Charly Boy said his decision to support Obi was borne out of his commitment to helping in securing the future of youths in the country.

According to him, this is the first time he would be supporting any candidate for election and it is because he found the majority of the youth throwing their support for Obi.

The Area Fada advanced that he sees the 2023 general election as an opportunity to actualise the ‘Dream Nigeria.

He noted that for Nigerians to survive the multifaceted challenges confronting it, Nigerians must look for a new leader with human sympathy, integrity, a track record, and readiness to govern, not a leader who just wants to win.

The activist submitted that “I have never supported any candidate since my journey as an activist. This is the first time I am supporting a candidate because that’s where you can find the majority of the youth. So anything to help them reclaim their future, I am all down for it.

“The salvation of this country lies in the hands of exceptional people like the young ones and somehow I’m beginning to see a re-awakening. So I’m happy that there’s this reawakening and they are taking charge of their future and as a father, I can’t just wait for the dream of the young Nigerians to come through.

“We are not looking for an angel but a servant in the form of a leader.”

Charly Boy, while appealing to the youth not to miss the opportunity the 2023 general election has brought said often hunger and stomach infrastructure were the reasons some youths give backing to old politicians.

He however urged Nigerians, especially the youth not to miss the opportunity that would be provided next year to vote for the right leaders.

The activists also warned that failure to vote wisely might cause people to “end up wishing President Muhammadu Buhari was still in power.”
