Naija News looks at the top happenings making headlines on the front pages of Nigeria’s national newspapers today Tuesday 13th December 2022.

The PUNCH: Suspected hoodlums on Monday unleashed a spate of violent attacks on the Independent National Electoral Commission building in Owerri, Imo State and the Peoples Democratic Party campaign office in Gombe State, razing the two facilities and further heightening anxiety about the conduct of the 2023 general elections. This was even as the Nigerian Air Force bombed terrorists’ hideouts in the three Local Government Areas of Birnin-Gwari, Igabi and Chikun of Kaduna State, killing scores of the hoodlums.


This Day: Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says Nigeria is at a critical moment in her political history and needs a leader with the right character and capacity to turn things around. Obasanjo said he was working with other elder statesmen to enthrone a new Nigeria, where everyone would have a sense of belonging and there would be justice for all.


The Nation: Gunmen yesterday bombed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Owerri, the Imo State capital. A policeman and three of the assailants died in the ensuing gunfight. The gunmen threw grenades through the commission’s fence, destroying offices and vehicles.


Daily Trust: The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reviewed the COVID-19 health guidelines for the aviation industry in the country, abolishing face mask wearing by passengers. Also, the aviation regulatory body in its revised COVID-19 public health protocols for all aviation service providers for both domestic and international operations has cancelled COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test for all categories of passengers irrespective of their vaccination status.
