Martinez steps down as Belgium manager

Roberto Martinez has announced he will resign as manager of Belgium immediately, following the Red Devils’ World Cup elimination.

Recall that the Belgian side was held by a toothless draw against the Croatians in the final game of their Group F encounter.

In a sad manner, the 2nd in the 2022 world cup were eliminated from the global tournament.

Naija News previously reported that the Belgian ace, Kelvin De Bruyne, earlier predicted the team’s early exit as he tagged the Belgians as “Old”.

However, as the former Everton boss prepare to leave the national team after six years in command, he acknowledged that it was an “emotional” time for him.

Martinez stated the following during his post-match news conference: “That was my last game with the national team and it was emotional, as you can imagine.

“I always work towards long-term projects and they need to be set in advance. That was always the plan”.

Shortly after the game, the Belgian FA announced in a tweet that Martinez had decided to step down before the World Cup got underway in November.
