Naija News looks at the top happenings making headlines on the front pages of Nigeria’s national newspapers today Saturday 12th November 2022.

Saturday PUNCH: Following the increasing rate of kidnapping in the country, with the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway becoming a major flashpoint in the South-West, the police and the Amotekun Corps have announced major operations to flush out kidnappers and other criminals from forests and other strategic locations in the region. The security agencies vowed to leave no stone unturned in ridding the South-West of criminality.


The Guardian: With the insistence of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) that the Federal Government must pay the withheld salaries of their members, the two unions may soon close ranks against the government to push through their demand. As the new crisis brews, some stakeholders have called on the government to quickly resolve all issues with the unions to save the university system from imminent collapse.


This Day: Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar yesterday expressed optimism that the crisis plaguing the party would be resolved long before the general election. Earlier same day, Atiku, who spoke at an Abuja Businessmen Breakfast meeting, said his plan to restructure the country did not necessarily imply resource control, but adding responsibilities that would motivate development in the country.


Daily Trust: From October 22–24, the former Lagos State governor turned his attention to Kano, calling for support from all those who had at one time or another promised him their backing if he became the presidential flag bearer of his party. Politicians in different support groups, including religious leaders, ethnic leaders that cut across the federation, as well as the business community and other social groups, all domiciled in the commercial centre of northern Nigeria, took turns to have audience with the former Lagos State governor and most ended their sessions with both sides smiling—endorsements from most of the groups and promises from the candidate.


Saturday Sun: Despite his claim that he had moved on after failing to resolve his differences with five aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the opposition party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has reportedly informed members of his kitchen cabinet to explore further avenues to resolve the lingering crisis. Atiku, had in a radio programme last week, claimed that he was moving on without the five aggrieved PDP governors.
