Activities were earlier crippled today at the main gate of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, as some aggrieved students protested against their exclusion in the Students Union Government (SUG) executives’ election of the institution.

The demonstration followed the exclusion of Ordinary National Diploma (OND) 1 and Higher National Diploma (HND) 1 students from the SUG election which was held online on Wednesday.

Naija News gathered that the current OND 2 and HND 2 students were the only ones given access to the portal for the election.

The action infuriated the OND 1 and HND 1 students who mobilised themselves today to kick against the decision.

Confirming the protest, the institution’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Alhaji Soladoye Adewole said it was true that only the current OND 2 and HND 2 students were allowed to vote.

He explained that OND 1 and HND 1 students were exempted from voting because some of them were yet to complete their registration.

He stated that “the election was held online and students were barred from coming to the school to vote. They were supposed to vote from their home using the application.

“As of yesterday, only the OND 2 and HND 2 were allowed to vote because OND 1 and HND 1 have not completed the registration that will allow them to vote.”

“The fact is that it is an online thing and the contestants were represented at the collation centre and they were looking at it as the votes were dropping. This is the third time we are doing online voting,” Adewole disclosed.
