2023: After Suspending Presidential Candidate, ADC Suspends 17 State Chairmen, One Other

The internal crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a new dimension with the party announcing the suspension of seventeen of its state chairmen for alleged anti-party activities and demeaning utterances.

The party also suspended its former national vice-chairman, north-east, Ibrahim Manzo for the same offences.

The worrying development was contained in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja signed by the ADC national chairman, Ralph Nwosu and its national secretary, Said Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the activities of the suspended persons contravened article 15 of the party’s constitution.

The statement also conveyed the appointment of former presidential aspirant, Mani Ahmed as the chairman of the party’s board of trustees (BoT).

Naija News understands Ahmed emerged as the party’s BoT chairman at the end of an emergency national working committee (NWC) and critical stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday.

The party leadership said replacements would be announced in due time for the suspended officials but urged party candidates, executives and supporters, not to be distracted from the task of winning the 2023 elections.

“The party’s former chairman in Abia was expelled; replacement for the suspended state chairmen will be announced in due course,” the statement noted.

ADC Presidential Candidate Suspended

It will be recalled that this news platform earlier reported that the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has been suspended from the party.

The party noted in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday that the presidential hopeful was suspended over gross indiscipline and violations of the party’s constitution which include publications and utterances capable of maligning the ADC national officers.

The statement said the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party had chosen to ignore Kachikwu’s previous offences for peace to reign but it could not shy away from his recent misguided and defamatory video circulating the cyberspace, among other infractions.

Kachikwu and 27 state chairpersons had earlier asked Nwosu to resign as the party’s national chairman after 17 years in office.

However, Kachikwu has rejected his suspension by the party.

In a statement on Saturday in Abuja, Kachikwu said that he still remains the presidential candidate of the party.

Kachikwu asserted that Nwosu was responsible for the crack in the party.

How Kachikwu Defeated Moghalu To Emerge ADC Presidential Candidate

A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kingsley Moghalu was defeated in the race for the 2023 presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He was defeated by a less-known media entrepreneur, Dumebi Kachikwu during the presidential primaries held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, by the party.

Naija News reports that Kachikwu defeated Moghalu by polling 977 votes against Moghalu’s 589 votes. Chukwuka Monye came third with 339 votes at the primary exercise held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Other aspirants kicked against the victory of Kachikwu. They accused the Roots Nigeria CEO of “dollarising” the process by bribing delegates.
