In the bid to improve power supply in Nigeria, the Federal Government has commenced the construction of transmission lines and substations to add 204MW to the grid.
Naija News reports that the power generation on the national grid surpassed 4,000 megawatts at 6 am on Wednesday.
According to PUNCH, data from the Federal Ministry of Power in Abuja showed that the grid generated 3,231.6 MW of power off-peak on Tuesday while 3,993.5 MW of power was produced at its highest on the same day.
On Wednesday, it finally exceeded 4,000MW when it reached 4,045.1MW at 6 am, representing a rise of 3.97% or 154.6MW, and the grid’s frequency was 49.19 Hertz.
This followed the Federal Government’s declaration that it had started building a 132-kilovolt transmission line, a 2X60MVA transmission substation, as well as a switching station in Ekiti to increase the power grid’s capacity by 204 MW, which would further improve supplies in the host state.
The Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, who spoke during the groundbreaking ceremony in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, said the project consists of a 50km stretch of 132kV transmission line from Ikere in Ado Ekiti, with a turn-in turn-out at Ijesa Isu that terminates at Ilupeju Ekiti.
The minister, who was represented by the Managing Director, TCN, Sule Abdulaziz, affirmed it was a strategic project and would boost the power transmission in Ekiti and its environs.
He added that the FG is not relenting in its determination to ensure that the country’s power sector receives the desired boost.
He said: “This is a very strategic project and we believe it will have a massive impact on bulk power transmission in Ekiti and environs.
“The project is part of the many projects being undertaken by the TCN in pursuit of its grid expansion programme which is in line with Mr. President’s mandate for the expansion of the power sector for sustainable development.
“These are a clear indication that the Federal Government is not relenting in its determination to ensure that the nation’s power sector receives the desired boost.”
