Osinbajo Speaks On Dumping APC Ahead Of 2023 Elections

The office of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has reacted to the reports suggesting he wants to dump the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The report said to have originated from a leaked memo dated June 24, 2022, with reference number SH/VP/605/2./0, claimed Osinbajo had written to President Muhammadu Buhari seeking his permission to dump the APC.

The alleged memo titled ‘Permission to resign from APC,’ claimed Osinbajo cited family pressures and other personal issues as the reason behind his plan to resign his membership of the APC.

However, reacting to the said memo, the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Mr Laolu Akande said there is no single iota of truth in the memo or its content.

2023: Atiku Vows To Meet With Wike Over Grievances

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar on Thursday promised to hold a reconciliation meeting with the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.

Atiku stated this a few hours after returning to Nigeria to support the governorship candidate of the PDP in Osun State, Ademola Adeleke in the party’s rally.

The former vice president while speaking on the grievances of Governor Wike and some PDP leaders said it’s nothing new in politics.

The PDP presidential candidate stated this on Thursday while addressing newsmen.

Osun Poll: ‘It Is Going To Be A Landslide If The Election Is Free And Fair’ – Adeleke

The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) governorship candidate Ademola Adeleke has expressed optimism about winning the Osun State election, scheduled for July 16th.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV Adeleke claimed he would win in a landslide if the election is conducted free and fair.

He also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of bringing thugs from Lagos to disrupt the election, adding they are shooting everywhere in the state.

According to the former lawmaker, the state government denied the opposition party access to facilities where they had planned to hold the mega rally on Thursday.

INEC Reveals Only Way APC Can Replace Shettima As Borno Senator

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said the only way to replace Senator Kashim Shettima in the Senate was for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to conduct a fresh primary election in the senatorial district.

INEC’s National Commissioner in charge of Information and Chairman, Voters Education, Festus Okoye, made this known in an interview with THISDAY.

Okoye stated that the second runner-up during the Borno Central Senatorial District cannot replace Shettima under the new Electoral Act.

He added that Senator Shettima will write a letter with a sworn affidavit that he is no more interested to contest as a senatorial candidate in the National Assembly election.

The INEC spokesman disclosed that the lawmaker will then submit the letter to his party, who will, in turn, submit same to INEC.

He added that upon the receipt of the letter, INEC will order a fresh senatorial primary election in his senatorial election for replacement within 14 days.

Atiku Arrives In Osun For PDP Mega Rally

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar has arrived in Osun State to support the governorship candidate of the party in Osun State, Ademola Adeleke.

The former vice president would attend the rally of the party alongside other party leaders on Thursday.

The governorship election of the state would be held on the 16th of July, with PDP hoping to win the state.

Atiku arrived in Osun State alongside the National Chairman of the main opposition party, Iyorchia Ayu ahead of the party’s mega rally.

2023: Moghalu Announces Decision, Says Many Political Parties Have Approached Him To Be Their Presidential Candidate

Former African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Kingsley Moghalu has disclosed that many political parties have approached him to be their presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

Moghalu made the disclosure on Thursday in a statement via his Twitter handle, noting that some others approached him to be the running mate to their candidate.

He however added that as much as he is honoured and humbled by the invitations, the initial decision to withdraw from contesting the 2023 presidential election remains in place.

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) promised to continue to serve Nigeria in other capacities as the country needs everyone.

Stopping Obasanjo’s Third Term Agenda Almost Took My Life – Gbajabiamila

The House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila has said his struggle against the third term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo almost cost him his life.

Gbajabiamila shared his travails during the third term agenda in his recently published memoirs, “Mr Speaker,” authored by Musa Abdullahi Krishi and Dr Charles Omole.

He revealed that agents of the botched attempt at subverting constitutional orders in Nigeria under President Obasanjo made life uncomfortable for him and his opposition colleagues in the House.

The lawmaker stated that while pro-third term lawmakers in the House were launching physical attacks, an incident occured with a former colleague, Independence Ogunewe, who almost strangled him to death on the floor of the House in 2006.

He added that there were numerous death threats from outside the Legislature.

APC Postpones Official Unveiling Of Shittima As Vice Presidential Candidate

The ruling All Progressives Congress on Thursday disclosed that the official unveiling of its vice presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima has been postponed.

The lawmaker representing Borno Central Senatorial District was meant to be presented to members of the party at the APC National Secretariat today (Thursday).

The Chairman of the APC Press Corp while addressing newsmen disclosed that the unveiling of Shettima has been postponed.

He further stated that the ruling party would disclose the new date in due time, adding that the date would probably be sometime next week.

According to the Press Corp chairman, the directive to shift the date for the unveiling of the party’s vice presidential candidate was given by the APC Deputy National Secretary, Barr. Fetus Fuanter.

NNPP To Unveil Kwankwaso’s Running Mate Today — Spokesperson

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is expected to announce its vice presidential candidate today (Thursday), according to the spokesman of the party, Agbo Major.

Major, on Thursday, said the fast-growing party would later in the day reveal Rabiu Kwankwaso’s running mate ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The spokesman of NNPP in a message forwarded to Vanguard disclosed that the party has commenced the uploading of Form EC9 of all governorship and House of Assembly candidates on the portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He called on Nigerians to ignore all insinuations coming from mischief makers.

Babachir Lawal Distances Self From Running Mates Recommendations To Tinubu

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal has denied claims that he was part of the committee that recommended running mate nominees to Bola Tinubu.

In a chat with Daily Trust on Wednesday night, Lawal said he was not part of any committee that recommended running mate nominees to Tinubu.

He confirmed that he chaired the planning and strategy committee which was set up to implement strategies for Tinubu to pick the APC presidential ticket.

The former SGF said he was not aware of any sub-committee that recommended running mates to the former Lagos governor.

2023: PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Returns From Vacation

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar has returned to Nigeria after his vacation in Dubai.

The former Vice president had jetted out of the country shortly after the presidential primary of the main opposition party.

Naija News learnt that Atiku after his trip to Dubai crossed to the United Kingdom (UK).

Atiku was welcomed by his supporters at the airport, who chanted “Atiku is coming” and “Welcome Daddy.”

Nollywood actress and African Democratic Congress (ADC) deputy governorship candidate, Tonto Dikeh has clarified the misconception about the use of ‘King’ when she is being addressed by her friends and colleagues.

In an interview with Channels TV, Tonto disclosed that she would be dropping the name ‘King’ to avoid future conflicts with traditional rulers.

According to Tonto, the name ‘King Tonto’ is not a title but was gotten from her son’s name, King Adrea and it’s something she has never had an opportunity to explain.

Tonto added that she needed to drop the name from her campaign initiatives because she doesn’t want traditional rulers to think she was ahead of them.

Why APC Needs To Win Osun Governorship Election – Kalu

Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu has highlighted the importance of the Osun governorship election to the future of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking via a statement released on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Kalu said it is important for the APC to win the Osun governorship polls scheduled for Saturday, July 16 because it is a forerunner to the 2023 general elections.

Highlighting why he believes the people of the state will vote for APC and its candidate, Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Kalu stated that the Governor has done well during his first term and the people will want him to continue the good works.

He however called for unity among APC members in Osun State going into Saturday’s election in order to ensure victory for the party.

2023: Tinubu Can Make ₦1 Equal To $1 – APC Chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Ayodele Adewale on Wednesday said the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu is capable of making the naira equal to the US dollar.

Adewale further stated that the cost of commodities would go down in Nigeria just like it was experienced during MKO Abiola’s presidential aspiration.

He pointed to the fact the former Governor of Lagos State is an accountant, while his running mate, Kashim Shettima is a banker who knows how to raise and manage funds.

Adewale, who is a local government chairman in Lagos State stated this during an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday.

Muslim-Muslim Ticket Should Not Matter To Southerners – Akeredolu

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has asked the people of the South not to bother about the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akeredolu stated this on Wednesday at the swearing-in of two new commissioners held at the Governor’s Office, Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital.

He urged the people of the South not to worry about the same faith ticket, stressing that the governors of the region fought for the 2023 presidency to be zoned to the South.

Akereolu advised the Southerners and Nigerians to vote for performance and competence instead of religion in 2023.

Osun: Court Strike Out Suit Seeking To Disqualify Oyetola As APC Governorship Candidate

A suit seeking to disqualify the Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been dismissed by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The governorship election in the state had been scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for July 16th.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, while delivering the judgement on Thursday, said the plaintiff, Moshood Adeoti, (a governorship aspirant in the party) failed to support the process with relevant laws, and as such, showed no cause of action in the suit which makes it a gross abuse of court process.

Justice Inyang added that the suit instituted falls outside the scope of section 87(9) of the Electoral Act and Section 22 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

2023: Muslim-Christian Presidency Hasn’t Taken Us Anywhere – Oshiomhole

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, on Thursday, claimed that fielding a Muslim/Christian ticket in Nigeria over the years has not taken us anywhere.

The former Governor of Edo State said this while expressing his support for the Muslim/Muslim ticket of the ruling party.

Oshiomhole, while speaking on TVC on Thursday, commended the Party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, for taking the bold step to pick a Muslim.

The APC chieftain also expressed satisfaction with the choice of Kashim Shettima as the party’s vice presidential candidate.

Kwankwaso Shortlists Four Names For Running Mate

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has shortlisted four individuals to pick a running mate from.

Naija News gathered that those considered for running mate, including a serving governor, were screened on Wednesday.

A source close to Kwankwaso told The PUNCH that apart from the governor those screened are Kingsley Moghalu, Madam Charity from Bayelsa State, and Bishop Isaac Idahosa from Edo State.

Asked if Idahosa had been picked as Kwankwaso’s running mate, the source said, “He is part of those considered. He went through screening alongside three others yesterday (Wednesday).
