Organ Harvesting: Ekweremadu, Wife May Face Life Imprisonment If Found Guilty

Beatrice, the wife of the former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu on Thursday was denied access to him when the lawmaker appeared in court.

The lawmaker’s wife during the hearing had asked the court to allow her to appear by his side because they have not seen each other since their last hearing which was held a week ago.

The request was, however, denied during the hearing at Uxbridge magistrate’s court in the United Kingdom.

The two sons of the former deputy senate president were also in court on Thursday.

Recall that Ekweremadu and Beatrice were arrested last week over alleged trafficking and attempt to harvest the organs of an “underaged”

The trial which had been adjourned till July 7, 2022, according to Channels TV was fast-tracked.

The court remanded Ekweremadu in custody as the court argued that he is an influential person, a flight risk and the case involves a child and modern slavery.

This is coming 24 hours after the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan revealed that the Nigeria Government has hired lawyers to defend the lawmaker and his wife.

According to Lawan, the 9th Senate would also send delegates to meet with Ekweremadu and his wife in London over the trial.
