The Federal Government has not responded to the directives of the Zamfara State Government for qualified citizens to bear arms against bandit terrorists.

The government said it has resolved to take further measures to deal with the recent escalating attacks, kidnapping, and criminal levies enforced on innocent communities.

It said this act of terrorism had been a source of worry and concern to the people and government of the state. It added that it is ready to facilitate people, especially farmers, secure basic weapons to defend themselves.

The government said it had directed individuals to prepare and obtain guns to defend themselves against the bandits, adding that the state commissioner of police has been directed to issue licenses to all those who qualify and are willing to obtain such guns to defend themselves.

The government has already decided to distribute 500 forms to each of the 19 Emirates in the state for those willing to obtain guns to defend themselves.

According to the statement, the government has set up a committee to ensure the proper implementation of the measures.

However, as of the time of filing this report, the federal government has failed to respond to the directive given by the Zamfara government for residents to arm themselves against bandits.
