Buhari Travels To Niger Republic

President Muhammadu Buhari has embarked on a medical trip to London, United Kingdom.

The Nigerian leader departed Abuja on Sunday, Naija News reports.

Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina had announced last month that the Nigerian leader would visit his doctor in London for “routine medical checks that will last for a maximum of two weeks”.

Another announcement, however, followed shortly that President Buhari has cut short his planned trip and returned to Abuja after the United Nations event in Kenya.

This was made known in a short Twitter statement on Friday afternoon by the President’s personal assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmad.

An update by Ahmad on Twitter says: “President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Abuja, after his participation in the 50th Anniversary of the UN Environmental Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, Kenya.”

The President, however, left the country today and would be out for a few days.

Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike of River State has blamed President Muhammadu Buhari for the rejection of gender bills by the National Assembly.

Naija News reports that members of the National Assembly last Tuesday, threw out five bills promoting the interest of women during the constitutional amendment process.

According to Wike, Buhari’s lack of interest in allowing for affirmative action for women in political administration in the country was responsible for the rejection of the women-related bills.

He made this known on Friday while speaking at the inauguration of Ahoada -Odiemerenyi-Ihugbogo-Odieke road project in Ahoada-East Local Government Area of the state.

Wike pointed out that the Buhari-led government has failed to harness the potential of women in the advancement of the nation, saying that the rejection of the bills is a major setback for the country’s growing democracy.

The Rivers governor said the rejection of the bills shows that the lawmakers have no regard for the wife of the President and Vice President, Aisha Buhari and Dolapo Osinbajo, who came to looby them, Naija News reports.
