Nigerian Delegation Arrives Romania To Begin Evacuating Citizens

The House of Representatives majority leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa has arrived in Romania with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Yusuf Buba, in a bid to evacuate Nigerians seeking refuge outside Ukraine.

The delegates went on behalf of the national assembly after passing a resolution requiring them to work with the government to ensure the repatriation of about 5,000 citizens in Poland, Romania and Hungary.

Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama said he had spoken to his Hungarian counterpart seeking permission for the Nigerian plane to land to begin work.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday approved the $8.5 million – almost 3.5 billion naira – project.

The incident comes as blacks are struggling to cope with the racism they face when they seek to leave Ukraine, where some have spent days queues because of their race.
