Victor Akinwa, a 23-year-old barber, has remanded in the Olokuta Correctional Centre by the Akure Magistrate’s Court for allegedly killing his father with a pestle.

Naija News reports that the suspect committed the crime at Basic Road Idanre in the Ondo State Magisterial District on November 20, 2021.

The  police prosecutor, Obadasa Ajiboye, told the court that the suspect hit his father, Justus Akinwa, during a heated argument with a pestle on the head, which led to his instant death.

According to Obadasa, the offences by the suspect contravened Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Obadasa, in an oral application, urged the court to remand the suspect to the Correctional Centre pending the Director of Public Prosecutions’ advice, DPP.

Following the prayer of the prosecutor, the suspect was remanded to the Olokuta Correctional Centre by the Presiding Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, pending the conclusion of the DPP’s advice.

The Magistrate adjourned the case’s mention until March 31, 2022.
