The Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Bello was evacuated by a helicopter when his convoy got stuck in a gridlock on the Abuja-Kaduna highway on Sunday.

It was gathered that Bello was caught up in the gridlock, while returning to his state after paying a condolence visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamali over the death of Hammanu Dauda.

The Niger State Governor was airlifted from the gridlock by a helicopter while other commuters remained stranded on the highway, according to a report on Monday monitored by our correspondent on Arise News.

The Abuja-Kaduna expressway which is a route for commuters from the Northern part of the country to the Southern part has become a haven for bandits and hoodlums.

There have been several reports of attacks, kidnapping and killings on the route.

Concerned Nigerians at one time or the other have lamented over the high level of insecurity in the area.
