Buhari Sends Message To Lawan Over Mother’s Death

President Muhammadu Buhari has described the tragic boat accident in Bagwai Local Government area of Kano State as sad and painful.

Naija News reports that 29 passengers have been confirmed dead and seven others injured in the boat accident which occurred on Tuesday.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Commissioner for Information in Kano, Muhammad Garba, said 14 passengers involved in the mishap are still missing, adding that rescue operation is ongoing.

Garba submitted that the boat capsized while carrying about 49 passengers from Badau village to Bagwai town for an Islamic celebration.

He, however, stated that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has ordered the setting up of a committee to investigate the incident and provide measures to prevent such accidents.

In a statement on Wednesday in Abuja by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, President Buhari expressed sadness over the tragic incident and prayed for the repose of those that died in the accident.

The Nigerian leader also commiserated with the government and people of Kano State over the tragic incident and promised them the support of all federal agencies in the state.

He said: ”As efforts are being made to rescue the passengers still unaccounted for, I join fellow citizens in praying for the repose of those lost, and for safety and well-being of all the others.”
