Amidst the reactions created by a recommendation received by the House of Representatives for the name of Nigeria as a country to be changed, former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani has also recommended a new name for Nigeria.

It will be recalled that the recommendation received by the House in the ongoing public hearing on constitution review recommended Nigeria should change her name to United African Republic.

Adeleye Jokotoye, a tax consultant made the recommendation to the House Committee at the southwest zonal hearing in Lagos on Wednesday, June 2, Naija News understands.

In his own view via a Twitter post on Thursday, Senator Sani said a name change is not necessary but if the country’s name must be changed, it should be renamed The Republic of Songhai.

He argued that Ghana also derived its name the same way he is recommending Nigeria should adopt its new name if necessary.

He wrote: “The name Ghana was derived from an ancient African Kingdom that never extended to the Present territory of Ghana. Change of name is not necessary but if we must Change, it should be The Republic of SONGHAI; the ancient Songhai empire extended to parts of the present Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, the Chairman Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa has warned that the federal government is ready to go to war with the southeast if the region wants to separate from Nigeria again.

Speaking on Channels TV, Senator Bulkachuwa warned that the government would not bow to ‘insurgents’ in the South East.

The top APC lawmaker warned that the Muhammadu Buhari-led government would fight those who want to break up the country and give them what they want.
