The spokesperson of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ajibola Bashiru has urged the federal government to close the various detention centers of the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police.

The Senator who represents Osun Central constituency at the upper chamber of the National Assembly noted that this will give further credence to the readiness of the government to listen to the demands of the people.

He lamented that it is rather unfortunate that the people have lost confidence in not just SARS but many government institutions.

Senator Bashiru made the submission in a statement on his Twitter page on Monday in his reaction to the #EndSARS demonstrations across the country.

He wrote: “Beyond terse statement that SARS is dissolved, the police authorities must demonstrate a commitment to #EndSARS by showing evidence like the closure of the many SARS detention centres and formations. It is unfortunate that government institutions have lost the confidence of the people!”

It will be recalled that the Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed on Sunday, announced the immediate dissolution of the F-SARS unit nationwide.

However, Nigerians have continued their protests on Monday, demanding that President Muhammadu Buhari should address Nigerians on the issue and also commit to the total reform of the Police Force.
