Flood: Kogi Assembly Members Sent Out Of Their Homes Overnight

Kogi State Assembly members have been reportedly sent out of their apartments by uncontrollable flood in the state.

According to reports reaching Naija News at this time, a ravaging flood has affected the Assembly quarters which houses no fewer than 26 lawmakers, forcing them to pack out overnight without notice.

It was also confirmed that several roads in the state have been cut off by the heavy flood, stopping motorists and residents from crossing to other parts of the state. Naija News learnt that the Assembly quarters which is located along Ganaja village, had been housed the lawmakers since 2003 until.

However, all attempts to confirm the incident from any of the Assembly members proved abortive, as none of them responded to their calls. All text messages reportedly sent to them was also ignored as at the time this report was given.

Naija News understands that the flood has forced residents of Ganaja village to resolve to using canoes and boats to cross the flooded area and as well forcing commuters to use another route to Lokoja and beyond.

According to report from newsmen who visited some of the affected areas on Sunday, October 4, including the flooded Assembly quarters, no fewer than eight Assembly members could not use their official quarters due to the flood.

Meanwhile, Jigawa State Governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar had in the last week ordered the immediate evacuation of displaced flood victims across the state.

The governor’s order came after a heavy flood destroyed houses, valuable properties of residents and as well claimed no fewer than forty lives.
