The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Frank Okiye, has reacted to his impeachment and that of his deputy by 17 lawmakers in the house.

Hon Frank Okiye, while speaking on a programme monitored by Naija News on Thursday noted that the house on Wednesday sat without any issue, so he has no idea where they got the 17 lawmakers to impeach him.

He further stated that the sitting of the reported 17 lawmakers does not stand because the reported lawmakers could have sat anywhere to take action against him, which has no legal backing.

The speaker while reacting to the decision of security operatives to block the house of assembly further stated that they were aware that the All Progressives Congress in the state plan to cause havoc in the state House of Assembly.

Hon Cletus Obun, while reacting to the statement of the speaker noted that 17 members out of 24 members have the capacity to impeach the Speaker, even the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

He further stated that the actions of the lawmaker to remove the Speaker of the state House of Assembly and his Deputy has legal backings.

The former lawmaker further stated that the lawmakers who were reported to have sat at an undisclosed location had their meeting the premises of the House of Assembly.

Naija News had earlier reported that some lawmakers in the Edo State House of Assembly on Thursday elected Victor Edoror as the Speaker of the Assembly.

He questioned the decision of the Speaker and the Edo State Governor to commence a sudden construction at the House of Assembly.

Okiye in his reaction said there are no 17 lawmakers anywhere, as the 14 lawmakers that were inaugurated have seen their sits declared vacant by the speaker a long time ago.

He further stated that the lawmakers are just bringing issues that carry no weight to wreak havoc in the state.

Obun called on the Governor of the state not to destroy the state with his action, and allow peace to reign in the state as people prepare to vote in the September 19 governorship election.
