Anambra State government has set up an eight-man peace committee to forestall further wars among two communities in the Anambra West Local Government Area which have reportedly claimed lives in both communities.

Naija News learnt that a crisis between residents of Allah/Onugwu community and Odekpe community has resulted in casualties as about ten residents of both communities reportedly feared dead including an officer of the Nigeria Police Force who is currently missing.

According to reports, the crisis which erupted from a land dispute started since April through June this year, causing numbers of casualties all time.

A source from Allah/Onugwu community claimed they have so far in the neighbouring war lost no fewer than seven lives excluding other persons abducted. On the other hand, the Odekpe community also alleged they lost an unspecified number of people to the lingering war.

However, the police command is said to have arrested some residents of Odekpe including its Igwe-elect, Peter Ikechi over their alleged connection with the missing officer attached to Nzam Police Division, Naija News understands.

Meanwhile, the committee set up by the government, headed by a first-class traditional ruler of Igbariam community in Anambra East LGA of the state, Igwe Nkeli Nzekwe Kelly, and Dr Emma Ude-Akpeh, the Permanent Secretary in the office of the Secretary to the State Government as its secretary is said to have started making effort to resolving the lingering war amicably.

Naija News also learnt that representatives of the two neighbouring communities were summoned in the last weekend to the Palace of Igwe Kelly of Igabriam, chairman of the committee and following deliberations told them that those arrested from Odekpe community by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team, IRT over missing officer has been released with a condition that there must not be further chaos the community until peace is fully restored.

According to Igwe Kelly, the police has promised to release others arrested while it drops the case without any condition attached should residents continue to live in peace.

In another news, Operatives of the Nigerian Police, Enugu State command have arrested a woman identified as Mrs Ifeoma Ezeugwu for physically assaulting and abusing her 10-year-old maid, Naija News reports.
