Today, Thursday 25/06/2020, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will elect its candidate for the Edo State Governorship Election scheduled for the 19th of September 2020.

Naija News reports that the Edo PDP election primaries will be solely contested by Governor Godwin Obaseki after reports emerged on Thursday of the stepping down from the race by popular philanthropist, Kenneth Imasuagbon, popularly known as the ‘Rice Man’.

Recall that Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama and Gideon Okhine had earlier stepped-down and backed Governor Obaseki for the ticket but Imasuagbon had insisted on contesting.

The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), engulfed in internal crisis, had already elected Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as its governorship candidate.

A total of 2,229 delegates are expected to decide who emerges as the party’s candidate ahead of the state governorship election.

Tony Aziegbemi, Edo PDP chairman, has just confirmed that ALL aspirants in the primary election have stepped down for Obaseki.
