Few hours to local government elections slated for tomorrow (Saturday) the internal crisis rocking ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Adamawa is now taking a new dimension with the senator representing the northern part of Adamawa, Sen Ishaku Abbo alleging that there were plots to rig the elections.

The state electoral empire had slated tomorrow Saturday for the conduct of the polls across 21 local government areas.

In a statement on Friday, Sen. Abbo had chided the state Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri,” to Be chief security officer of the State not constitute self as the chief security threat.”

“Recently, the conduct and utterances of the Governor of Adamawa State RT. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in the build-up to this election where he has said that anyone who got the ticket of his party in the various local governments is already a winner, this is a serious concern to all peace-loving people of Adamawa State.

“He has also said that election results will be declared by 12:00 noon on the day of the election in Yola the state capital instead of a declaration of results at each of the twenty-one local government area headquarters.

“The state Governor also told me that he will travel out of the state leaving behind instruction to the Chairman Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) to declare results in Yola in favour of his political party, even before results are collated.

“Recall sir that one of the major causes of the crises in Jos, Plateau state capital was caused by local government elections. Regrettably, Jos has known NO peace with concomitant losses incurred by government and citizens in billions of naira as well as thousands of lost lives.

“I want you to note therefore that, the Chief Security Officer of the state should not constitute himself to be the chief security threat,” he warns.

Fintiri Reacts

Reacting, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri through his Director-General, Media and Communication, Solomon Kumangar said, “Every assurance and guarantee of level playing ground., free and fair LG elections has been given by His Excellency.

“The only person constituting himself into a security threat and public nuisance is Senator Abbo who is stoking dissent by His letter.

“He is the one who should be arrested. It is God, who truly loves Adamawa State, that is exposing dubious politicians and rabble-rousers like Senator Abbo,” he replied.
