Serena Williams Named As The First Athlete To Make Forbes’ Richest Self-Made Women List

American professional tennis player, Serena Williams, has broken history in the latest release of Forbes’ list.

Serena who reached the number 1 ranking for the first time on July 8, 2002, became the first athlete to make Forbes’ list of the World’s Richest Self-Made Women.

According to publication, the 37-year-old made the list as a result of her net worth of $224m (£177m).

Forbes further reported that majority of Serena’s fortune has been made as a result of her
“brain and brand rather than her backhand”.

A report has it that in the past five years, the 23-time Grand Slam champion invested in 34 startup business.

Serena while speaking on her financial investments, she said: I want to be in the infrastructure. I want to be the brand, instead of just being the face.”

Forbes also revealed that 60 percent of the tennis player’s investments have gone to companies led by women or people of colour.
