1. PDP threatens to pull out of 2019 election peace accord

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has threatened to pull out of the peace accords signed on the conduct of the 2019 general elections in the country.

The major opposition party issued the threat on Wednesday in reaction to the threat by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state saying foreign officials who try to intervene in Nigeria’s internal affairs will “go back in body bags”.

2. Presidency breaks silence on El-Rufai’s ‘body bag’ comment

The Presidency has defended the governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, who came under heavy criticism on Wednesday over his comment on an NTA programme.

Naija News had reported earlier that the Kaduna governor said foreigners planning to intervene in the elections will leave in “body bags”.

3. Saraki calls on FG to immediately end ASUU strike

Senate President Bukola Saraki has called on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to end the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

In a statement on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Senate President emphasized the need for Nigeria’s universities to be re-opened without further delay, highlighting the fact that the education of Nigeria’s youth is being negatively affected by the stance of the government.

4. IGP orders posting and redeployment of 54 senior police officers

Nigeria’s Acting Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Mohammed Adamu has redeployed the newly promoted Assistant Inspectors General of Police and Commissioners of Police at the Force Headquarters.

Recall that Naija News had earlier reported that The Nigerian Police has on Monday, February 4, decorated seven Deputy Inspectors Generals (DIGs).

5. International passports would henceforth be produced in Nigeria – FG

A memorandum of understanding, MoU has been signed by the federal government for the production of international passports in Nigeria.

The Ministry of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, signed the agreement with Iris Smarts Technology Limited and the Nigeria Security, Printing and Minting PLC to begin the production of international passports in Nigeria.

6. PDP accuses INEC of hoarding PVCs, call for extension of time for collection

The leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission has been accused by the Peoples Democratic Party of hoarding Permanent Voters Card.

The statement which called for an extension for the collection of the card was released by the party through its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan.

7. Magu writes President Buhari, gives him update on Onnoghen’s investigation

Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in a letter written to President Muhammadu Buhari, has maintained that Walter Onnoghen, suspended chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), is still under investigation for corruption allegations.

The letter referenced EFCC/EC/P/01, dated January 30, 2019, was titled, “Interim investigation report: the Alleged case of bribery, corruption and money laundering”.

8. Soyinka blows hot, tackles Buhari, Obasanjo in new statement

Nigerian Nobel Laureate, and social critic, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has urged those saddled with the responsibility of administering justice for social order not to trivialise corruption to score ‘dismissive political points.’

He stated this in a statement on Tuesday titled, “Trivialise corruption, Neutralise justice.”

9. EFCC arrests internet fraudsters, recover N31m

Five suspected Internet fraudsters have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Lagos Zonal Office and N31 million was also recovered from them.

The suspects who were identified as Paul Duru, Daniel Effiong, David Gold, Moses Gold and Eke Kelechi, were arrested following a petition received by the EFCC from a new generation bank.

10. FIFA President, Gianni Infantino set for unchallenged second term in office

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, is set to serve a second term after world football’s governing body said on Wednesday he would be the only candidate for June’s vote, Naija News understands.

The 48-year-old has been in charge of FIFA since February 2016, after succeeding the disgraced Sepp Blatter following the corruption scandal which rocked the organisation.
