Nigerians React To Alex Badeh’s Death

It was a sad day in Nigeria yesterday when the murder of Alex Badeh, former chief of defense staff was announced by Ibikunle Daramola, spokesman of the Nigerian Air force.

The news of the death of top military officer has continued to send shock waves through the fabric of many Nigerians.

The Tweet which broke the sad news read:

As earlier reported by Naija News, Badeh died from gun wounds sustained when he was shot by gunmen along the Abuja-Keffi road while returning from his farm.

In a series of Tweets some Nigerians decried the fact that the former defense staff was killed cheaply, without weapons to defend himself, or body guards attached to him by virtue of his military status.

Some have further panicked noting that if the unfortunate attack was possible with a former defence chief, the safety of ordinary Nigerians can’t be guaranteed.

Among comments and reactions that condemned the murder of late Badeh were two strong critics of the President Muhammadu Buhari‘s administration, Femi Fani Kayode and Reno Omokri who decried the incident and called for compulsory Justice.

On his part, former aviation Minister, Femi, Fani Kayode described Badeh’s murder as a ‘despicable and cowardly act’, adding that those who were responsible for the cold blooded murder ‘will pay a terrible price for their wickedness’.

Reno Omokri  who described the deceased as a strong critic of the present administration, said the incident was too convenient and also called for justice.

Meanwhile some have seen his murder as Law of Karma at work, noting that the late Badeh “deprived the Nigerian Military of weapons and kept the money for himself.

Naija News recalls that until his demise, the late retired chief of defense staff was facing a case of money laundering with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He was first arraigned in 2015 on charges bordering on criminal breach of trust, abuse of office and money laundering to the tune of N3.9 billion.

The deceased had denied all the allegations levelled against him.
