Alex Sabundu Badeh, a former chief of defence staff in Nigeria  has been shot dead by gunmen when his vehicle was attacked on Tuesday.

Ibikunle Daramola, spokesman of the Nigerian Air force, announced the death of Badeh via a statement on his Twitter handle on Tuesday.

He said Badeh died from gunshot wounds sustained in an attack while returning from his farm.

He said the sad incident happened along Abuja-Keffi road.

Alex Badeh was a retired four star flag officer of the Nigerian Air force who served as the 18th Chief of Air Staff and the 15th Chief of Defence Staff of the armed forces of Nigeria.

Aged 61, Badeh  who served as Nigeria’s chief of defence staff between January 2014 and July 2015, was a native of Vimtim in Mubi local government area of Adamawa state.

He had been standing trial for alleged money laundering.

Until his death, Naija News recalls the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was prosecuting him for allegedly diverting public funds while in office.

He was first arraigned in 2015 on charges bordering on criminal breach of trust, abuse of office and money laundering to the tune of N3.9 billion.

The deceased had denied all the allegations levelled against him.
