Polytechnic Lecturer Slumps, Dies In His Home

The Kogi State Polytechnic community has been bereaved by the death of one of it lecturer, Mr Yakubu Nataala, who slumped and died at his residence in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Reports has it that the lecturer’s frustration over the non-payment of his salaries might have caused his death.

PUNCH Metro understands on Monday that the lecturer received his salary last in July 2017.

Close relations of the lecturer asserted that the frustration of his failure to meet his financial demands caused him to die prematurely.

However, Luke Tijan, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, refuted residents’ speculations.

The institution’s spokesman stated that the lecturer, who had earlier undergone surgery for ruptured appendicitis, died from complication arising from the operation.

Tijani, however, confirmed that the deceased was among lecturers that had not received salaries for many months.

“Yesterday (Sunday), we lost one of our lecturers in the polytechnic. He was earlier operated upon for appendicitis. He was among some of the lecturers that had not been paid salaries due to the screening,” he said.
