1. Buhari releases N22b for former workers of defunct Nigeria Airways

About N22.68 billion has been released by the federal government to settle part of the retirement benefits of former workers of the defunct Nigeria Airways.

This was disclosed by Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance, who announced the setting up of a nine-member committee to verify the claims of the ex-workers, stating the money approved was 50 percent of their N45 billion benefits.

2. PDP screens its 2019 presidential aspirants

The peoples democratic party, yesterday at its national headquarters, screened 13 aspirants jostling for its 2019 presidential ticket.

The screening sets the stage for the party’s primaries where its candidate would be determined.

3. President Buhari releases N20b for ASUU

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the sum of N20 billion for members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in public universities.

The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed made the disclosure yesterday.

4. Saraki completes PDP presidential screening

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has undergone his screening for eligibility to contest the PDP ticket for the 2019 presidential race.

Saraki joined other presidential aspirants yesterday to undergo the screening, paving way for participation in the party’s primaries in October.

5. Labour insists on going ahead with strike over minimum wage

The organised labour has declared that it would continue preparations for its nationwide strike over Federal Government’s delay in the implementation of a new National Minimum Wage.

Mr. Joe Ajaero, President, United Labour Congress (ULC), said this in a communiqué issued after its meeting on Monday in Lagos, reminding Nigerians that the 14-day ultimatum issued to the federal government expires September 26 and urged them to be prepared.

6. CNPP disagrees with INEC for declaring Osun election inconclusive

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has described the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State inconclusive as “a rape of basic democratic process and rule of law”.

CNPP’s position is contained in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu on Monday.

7. Kassim Afegbua dumps APC for PDP

A former special adviser on media to Adams Oshiomhole, Mr Kassim Afegbua, has dumped the All progressive Congress Party with thousands of his supporters to the PDP.

Afegbua was received by the PDP Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, at Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo state.

8. Omisore gives condition to support PDP in Osun state

The candidate of the Social Democratic Party in last Saturday’s election in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has given condition to support PDP and its candidate in Thursday’s rerun election.

Omisore stated this when he hosted Senator Bukola Saraki at his home in Ile-Ife on Monday.

9. Buhari redeploys four federal permanent secretaries

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the redeployment of four federal permanent secretaries to various ministries, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HOS), has disclosed.

In a statement in Abuja, Winifred confirmed the redeployment of affected permanent secretaries to other ministries.

10. Luca Modric emerges 2018 FIFA best men’s player

Croatia and Real Madrid Midfielder Luka Modric has been awarded Best FIFA Men’s Player Award, just weeks after he was named UEFA Player of the Year.

The voting for the award was done by coaches, team captains and media men from FIFA nations.
