NSDC Boss Discusses Security Issues At The Training Programme  For Private Security Guards

The Commandant-General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdullahi Muhammadu has disclosed that the Government will now monitor the training of new outfits to combat security challenges of the country.

He made this stand known in Abuja on Thursday at the opening ceremony of the training programme for Chief Executive Officers and directors of private security guard companies.

Muhammadu also noted that the FG has outlawed the training of private security guards by consultants, explaining that it was for security challenges.

Muhammadu said it was pertinent to reposition the private security guards sector to enable it to play a more effective role in the emerging national security strategy, noting that the challenging security issues facing the country had overstretched the capacity of government’s security agencies.

“To achieve the objective of closely monitoring training of personnel of Private Guards Companies, I have approved the use of the corps’ training facilities spread across the country,” the NSCDC boss stated.

He said reforms were being introduced into the security architecture of the country, stressing that “the reform is intended to be deep, far-reaching and will be a win-win for government objectives, the society and practitioners in the sector.”

Also speaking at the event, the President of Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria, Mr. Davidson Akhimen, noted that the training was timely, considering the role of the PSGCs with three million personnel in maintaining the security of Nigerians.

By the end of the training, we would have had a robust interaction that will improve the security of the country,” he said.
