1. President Buhari signs not too young to run bill into law
President Muhammadu Buhari, has on Thursday, at the council chamber of the Aso Rock Villa, signed into law the “not too young to run” bill earlier passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.
The bill seeks to reduce the age limit for individuals willing to contest certain elective offices in Nigeria.
2. Senate approves 4, rejects one CBN non-executive director nominee
The Nigerian Senate, Thursday has confirmed four of five nominees for the seats of non-executive directors of the board of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Out of the five names that President Muhammadu Buhari had nominated, the senate confirmed Ummu Jalingo, Justitia Odinakachukwu, Mike Obadan and Adeola Adetunji respectively.
Abdu Abubakar was however rejected as senators said they were dissatisfied with his responses to their questions.
3. Dino Melaye demands apology from President Buhari
Senator Dino Melaye has demanded President Muhammadu Buhari apologize to members of the National Assembly over a recent statement he made in which he said he did not know what many of the legislators were doing.
Melaye submitted that President Buhari’s statement is an insult and therefore demands apology from the President.
4. Court nullifies APC congress in Rivers state
The Rivers State High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt has nullified the respective May 19, 20, and 21 ward, local government and state congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state.
The judgment was handed down by Justice Chiwendu Nwogu in his ruling on Wednesday.
5. Former Kaduna state governor remanded in prison custody
Mukhtar Yero, a former governor of Kaduna State, and three others, have been remanded in prison by a Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna.
The remand order was given by Justice Mohammed Shuaibu on Thursday, following the arraignment of the defendants by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
6. Fayemi picks Chief Egbeyemi as Ekiti running mate
The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti state, has announced the nomination of Chief Bisi Egbeyemi as the running mate to Dr. Kayode Fayemi in the July 14th gubernatorial election in the state.
Egbeyemi is a former Chairman of Ado-Ekiti Local Government, and also served as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General in the state between 2002 and 2003.
7. Presidency reacts to sentencing of Jolly Nyame
Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, said Nyame’s sentencing has shown that APC is not a place for criminals.
She commended Justice Adebukola Banjoko, for withstanding all forms of pressure and inducements from corrupt lawyers and godfathers, adding that It’s a victory for all law abiding citizens of this nation.
8. JOHESU suspends strike
The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has suspended its nationwide strike that started six weeks ago.
The union announced the decision on Thursday, via a communique issued at the end of its National Executive Council meeting.
9. CBN deputy governor resigns to pursue political ambition
Deputy Governor in charge of Operations at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Adebayo Adelabu has resigned his appointment with the apex bank.
Report says Adelabu left to seek election as the Governor of Oyo state.
10. Zinedine Zidane resigns as Real Madrid coach
Zinedine Zidane has announced his resignation as the head coach of Spanish club, Real Madrid, just five days after leading the club to an unprecedented third successive Champions League Victory.
Zidane however confirmed that he voluntarily left the position, and was not forced out of the club.
