Buhari promises to lead Nigeria into prosperity

1. Buhari appoints Tinubu to head APC reconciliation committee

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building efforts toward improving cohesion within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is according to a statement issued by Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity in Abuja on Tuesday.

2. Senate agrees with Reps on the re-order of 2019 election

The Senate and House of Representatives Committees on the Amendment to the Electoral Act 2010, have agreed on the reshuffle of the order of polls during general elections in Nigeria.

The implication is that the presidential election will be held last in the order of polls in 2019 and subsequent general elections.

3. IBB’s media aide sues Police IG

The media aide to former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Mr. Kassim Afegbua, has sued the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, and two media houses, for alleged harassment and persecution over a statement he issued on behalf of his principal considered critical of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

4. CCT resumes trial of senate president Bukola Saraki

The Code of Conduct Tribunal has resumed the trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Saraki arrived in company of some senators and other supporters and expressed confidence he would get a favourable further voiced his innocence in respect of the pending three-count charge before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

5. President visits Nasarawa state

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday paid a one-day working visit to Nasarawa state where he was received by Gov. Tanko Al-Makura.

The president commissioned various projects including an international market and a special school.

6. Youths and Police clash over killing of driver in Edo state

The death of a commercial driver in Edo state has resulted in the violent protests by angry youths of the state along the Third-East Cirular Road in the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.

Disagreement between the driver and the police officer allegedly resulted in the driver’s death when he was pushed and subsequently crushed by a speeding truck.

7.  Buhari reinstates suspended NHIS boss

President Muhammadu Buhari has recalled the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Prof. Usman Yusuf, who was suspended by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, on July 6, 2017.

It was learnt the letter was signed by President Buhari’s chief of staff, Abba Kyari and sent to the minister on Tuesday evening.

8. JAMB extends registration deadline

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the registration for 2018 UTME till February 11, 2018.

This was announced in a statement on Tuesday by the board’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin.

9. Gov. Ortom orders residents to defend themselves against attack

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has called on the people of the state to defend themselves if attacked.

The governor, who spoke on a radio programme titled, ‘Issue of the moment’ on Tuesday, said it was necessary for the people to defend themselves in order not to become easy preys.

10. Fire destroys DPR office in Minna

Three office rooms at the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in Minna were affected by fire on Tuesday, the Niger Coordinator of the department, Abdullahi Isa, disclosed.

He said the fire affected the Internet, Accounts Department, Head of Gas and Down Stream offices.
