1. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to head committee on herdsmen killings

The National Economic Council at its first meeting of the year, set up a committee to address the conflict between herdsmen and farmers in the country.

The committee is chaired by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and membership consists of nine state governors.

2. IPOB remains proscribed, court declares

A Federal High Court in Abuja has refused to vacate its earlier order proscribing the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and designating it a terrorist organisation.

Acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Abdul Kafarati, in a judgment delivered thursday, dismissed IPOB’s application challenging the order.

3. Kaduna NUT calls off strike

The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, (NUT), has called off its indefinite strike in Kaduna State over the sack of the teachers who failed the competency test.

The union said it was calling off the strike because Governor Nasir El-Rufai had promised to give the sacked teachers a second chance.

4. JAMB instructs all institutions to end 2017 admissions by January 25

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, on Thursday directed all tertiary institutions to conclude their 2017 admission by January 25 in order to ensure the academic calendar is adhered to.

The Board’s Head of Media, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.

5. Misau alleges plan to impeach Senate President, Bukola Saraki

Senator Isa Hamman Misau, has warned that the plot to remove Dr. Bukola Saraki from office as Senate President is been spearheaded by a minister.

According to him, fears over Saraki’s possible defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is the driving force for those pushing the idea.

6. Ebonyi state shuts down schools over Lassa fever outbreak

Ebonyi State Government, has today, Thursday, directed the closure of all public and private schools in the state to investigate the spread of Lassa fever that recently broke out in the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Prof. John Eke speaking in Abakaliki said the closure was part of proactive measures to curb the spread of the disease in Ebonyi which had resulted in the death of some residents.

7. Benue indigenes reject cattle colonies

Hundreds of indigenes of Benue state, yesterday stormed the National Assembly Complex to express displeasure over the federal government plans to establish cattle colonies.

Dressed in black attires and wielding different placards, the protesters lamented the killings suspected to have been carried out by herdsmen.

8. Herdsmen kill pregnant woman in Ekiti state

A suspected herdsmen attack in the Orin community in Ekiti State, has resulted in the death of a pregnant woman and injury to others.

The eight months pregnant woman was a Tiv from Benue State.

9. NNPC denies recruitment rumours

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has denied reports that Engineering Department of the National Engineering and Technical Company (NETCO), its subsidiary is recruiting.

The management warned the public to disregard such adverts on some social media platforms.

10. NFF lines up six friendlies for Eagles ahead of Russia 2018 World cup

The Nigeria Football Federation has announced Eagles will play 6 friendlies before the 2018 World cup tournament in Russia.

NFF President, Amaju Pinnick disclosed this at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, immediately after the contract signing with Coca-Cola.
