Slave Trade: 144 Nigerians return from Libya

No fewer than 144 Nigerians have returned to Nigeria from Libya through a chartered Buraq Airlines aircraft on Tuesday as some government agencies received them at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at about 6:45 pm.

Naija News gathered that they were provided aid back home by the International Organisation for Migration, (IOM), and the European Union (EU).

Court Unfreezes Patience Jonathan’s 16 accounts

Six months after temporary freezing, The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered that the 16 frozen bank accounts owned by former President, Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Patience Jonathan be unfrozen.

The trial judge, Binta Nyako, gave the directive on Tuesday – having frozen the accounts since May 30.

Patience’ accounts were frozen as a result of a suit filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

2019 Elections: Saraki speaks on dumping APC

Senate President Bukola Saraki, said on Tuesday that he will not dump the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Senate President, who told Punch through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, noted that as a founding father of APC, he would not leave the party.

“There is nothing like that and there is nothing to suggest that. Every member must come from somewhere. Are you going to ask the President Muhammadu Buhari whether he would go back to the Congress for Progressive Change?” he asked.

ASUU Strike Update: OAU Shut Down

The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile Ife has been shut down, following the strike action embarked on by all non-teaching staff two days ago.

Naija News gathered that the strike has affected some key operations of the institution such as electricity, water and health care.

In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the school, Abiodun Olanrewaju, the university announced its break in an emergency meeting held on Tuesday

Fuel Scarcity: Senate To Embark On Nationwide Filling Stations Inspection

The Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream says it will embark on nationwide inspection of filling stations over looming fuel scarcity in the country.

The chairman of the committee, Kabiru Marafa, disclosed this in a news briefing on Tuesday in Abuja after an investigative hearing on the matter.

He said that though the senate had adjourned to commence budget defence, members of the committee would take time out to embark on a rigorous oversight, adding that members of the committee will be regrouped into sub-committees to make the visit to all the states feasible.
