Cleric Supports Afenifere’s Stand On Cattle Ranching In The South-West

The Assistant General Overseer of the Christ Arrival International Church, Gethsemane Parish, Ibadan, Pastor Peter Olaniyan, has justified Yoruba PAN-African group, Afenifere’s stand against the establishment of cattle ranches in south western states.

While speaking with newsmen at Tose in Akinyele Local Government area of Oyo State as part of activities marking the one year anniversary of the church, Pastor Olaniyan said: “They have the right to say don’t come here to do cattle ranching in the South West. Who is that father that will allow somebody to come and kill his own children?

The cleric said: “If the Afenifere represent the Yoruba interest, then they should defend the Yoruba interest. This is not about being tribalistic. If you do a business, you should have the tool to do it. If you want to raise cattle, find food for them. And if you don’t want to find food for them, but you want to look elsewhere to find food for them, then ensure that you are peaceful when you go there. That is my position, and I don’t think I owe anybody an apology for saying that I don’t want the unclean spirit to come to my house.”

The cleric also cautioned both the Federal and Adamawa State Governments not to hastily execute the death sentence given to five farmers for killing a herdsman.

Naija News in earlier publications, reported Justice Abdul-Azeez Waziri of the Yola High Court had convicted Alex Amos, Alheri Phanuel, Holy Boniface, Jerry Gideon and Jari Sabagi, from Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State for the murder of one Adamu Buba.

He said: “Killing the five people will not solve the problem. I will rather ask the Government to be lenient. But when you want to do that, you have to demonstrate what you have done to those who have been killing people. How come we cannot arrest them? There must be a kind of balance. So, pleading not to kill them is not even necessary because we have seen a kind of imbalance already. They shouldn’t even need to think of killing them right now until we get to the root of it.”
