Why NERC Approved Electricity Tariff Hike For Ikeja, Port Harcourt, Kaduna And Other States

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved tariff increases for six power distribution companies (DisCos).

The affected states include Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC); Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC); Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC); Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC); Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

Naija News gathered that the new approval took effect on 1st January 2022 but the new rate is from February 2022.

NERC said gas price, inflation, exchange rate, US inflation rate and available generation capacity were some of the indices considered for the tariff increase.

The commission also noted that the indices with the potential impact on electricity rates were considered.
