Four Trapped, Others Hospitalized In Kano Building Collapse

At least four people were reportedly trapped on Friday (today) after a two-storey building under construction collapsed on Sultan Road in Kano State.

The incident, which occurred at about 9 am, triggered a rescue operation as emergency workers and residents battled to pull the victims from the rubble.

Naija News understands that as of the time of filing this report, three of the trapped persons had been rescued, while efforts were ongoing to reach the fourth victim.

The rescued victims, who reportedly sustained injuries in the incident, were taken to the Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Hospital in Kano for medical attention.

According to Daily Trust, eyewitnesses said construction workers at the site noticed signs of a possible structural failure shortly before the building collapsed.

The workers were said to have been carrying out construction activities on the upper floor when the site engineer reportedly observed signs that the structure was becoming unstable.

Following the warning, several workers hurriedly left the building and moved to safety.

However, four people, including a security guard and a tricycle rider, were caught in the collapse.

One of the construction workers, Shuaibu Yaro, said the workers had resumed duties and were moving sand to the upper floor when the site engineer noticed the warning signs.

“We came to work here and had started taking sand upstairs when the site engineer noticed the signs of collapse. We rushed to safety, but unfortunately, three people were in front of the gate, and one other person was trapped,” Daily Trust quoted Yaro as saying.

Yaro said three of the four victims had been pulled out of the debris, including the security guard and his friend.

He added that rescue efforts were continuing to locate and save the remaining victim.

“Three have been rescued, including the security guard and his friend, while one person remains trapped,” he said.

According to him, the rescued victims sustained injuries and were immediately taken to the Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Hospital for treatment.

As of the time of filing this report, rescue operations were still ongoing at the site, with efforts concentrated on reaching the person believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.

The cause of the building collapse had yet to be officially established.
