1. Tinubu Govt Speaks On Spending ₦8 Trillion Outside Approved Budget
The Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government has denied claims that it spent more than ₦8 trillion, estimated at about two per cent of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), outside the approved national budget.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Federal Ministry of Finance, the government described the claims as incorrect and capable of misleading Nigerians about the management of public finances.
The statement, signed by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, followed public commentary linked to observations attributed to the International Monetary Fund’s representative in Nigeria and the Fund’s 2026 Article IV Consultation Report.
The government insisted that it does not operate a “shadow budget” or spend public funds outside constitutional and statutory financial procedures.
The government cited Sections 80 to 83 and 162 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which regulate the withdrawal and expenditure of public funds.
It said Federal Government expenditure was undertaken through Appropriation Acts, Supplementary Appropriation Acts and other statutory authorities approved by the National Assembly.
The ministry also explained that multi-year capital projects, which may span several budget cycles, were implemented in line with existing laws and approved capital rollover provisions where applicable.
2. Oyo APC Announces Reconciliation Committee After Picking Alli As Governorship Candidate
The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has constituted a reconciliation committee ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The committee, made up of elder statesmen and party leaders, is saddled with the responsibility of addressing grievances and complaints from the APC primary elections and the subsequent emergence of candidates for the 2027 election.
Naija News reports that the setting up of the reconciliation committee was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the state Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare.
He explained that the move is targeted at mending fences and sustaining peace and unity after the conclusion of the party’s primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections in the state.
The committee, which is expected to be inaugurated this week by the state Chairman of the party and former Deputy Governor, Moses Adeyemo, will be mandated to reach out to all those who obtained the APC’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms in Oyo State but were unable to secure the party’s tickets to contest various elective positions.
3. Gbajabiamila: PDP Blasts APC, Accuses Tinubu’s Govt Of Alarming Recklessness
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of running the country with alarming recklessness.
Naija News reports that the party stated this on its 𝕏 account on Sunday while addressing the scandal involving Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, and ‘the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi.
The PDP insisted that impunity has now become a standard practice, administered like a criminal enterprise.
4. NDLEA Arrests Nigerian-British Grandma Smuggling 13kg Cocaine In Plantain Peels
The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 67-year-old Nigerian-British grandma, identified as Mary Yetunde Barek, following the discovery of 13 kilograms of suspected cocaine concealed in peels of plantain, which appeared as real plantains and packed among other food items in her luggage at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
Naija News reports that NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, disclosed that the suspect, who works as a caregiver in the United Kingdom, was arrested at the departure hall of Terminal 2 of the Lagos airport while attempting to board a Virgin Atlantic airline flight to London on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
Babafemi said a thorough search of the suspect’s bags resulted in the discovery of 31 big wraps of cocaine, which were packaged to appear like plantain hands, weighing a total of 13 kilogrammes.
According to the statement, the elderly woman in her statement, admitted full ownership of the recovered cocaine exhibits.
5. No Negotiation With Bandits – Governor Lawal Declares
The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has declared that his administration will not negotiate with bandits.
He also urged the bandits and other criminals to surrender or face the full weight of the law and sustained military operations.
Naija News reports that Lawal made the declaration on Sunday through his Chief of Staff, Mukhtar Musa, at the inauguration of the Association of Zamfara State Indigenes Residing in Kaduna secretariat.
Musa said the Lawal administration remained committed to ending insecurity through sustained collaboration with security agencies across the state.
He said the government would continue providing logistics, equipment, ammunition and other operational support to security forces fighting criminal elements.
6. We Will Pay Close Attention To Nigeria’s 2027 Election – United States Congressman
A United States Congressman, Rep Riley Moore, has stated that the United States will closely monitor the 2027 election.
Naija News reports that Moore made the remark during an interview on Noire TV on Saturday.
When asked whether he was aware of the forthcoming election in Nigeria and if there was anything the United States could do to provide political support, the congressman said, “We will be paying close attention to Nigeria’s 2027 election.”
He added that the United States would be watching the outcome of the polls and the manner in which they are conducted.
7. I Don’t Love Yvonne Jegede Anymore, But I’ll Kill For Her – Nollywood Actor, Kunle Fawole
Nollywood actor, Kunle Abounce Fawole, has disclosed that he no longer has romantic feelings for his ex-wife, actress Yvonne Jegede, but can kill anyone attempting to harm her.
Naija News reports that Fawole made this known during an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwu, while reflecting on their failed relationship.
Recalling the breakup, he said, “I had a girlfriend once, but it didn’t work.” Asked why, he replied, “I think we’re just, on different planes. I’d rather just be the one to say, ‘Oh, everything was my fault,’ so to speak, I don’t like the enmity of things.”
The actor explained that he has no interest in avoiding people he once loved or holding grudges against them.

Nollywood actress, Temi Otedola, has said she does not plan to post her child on social media, as she wants to keep her baby away from public attention.
Naija News reports that she shared this during an episode of the How Far podcast.
Temi, who is the wife of musician Mr Eazi, explained that posting a child to a small number of followers is not the same as sharing the child with a very large online audience, where content can reach millions of people.
The Citation actress said she has noticed that children’s videos online often get a lot of attention, with many people saving them, which makes her uncomfortable.
Because of this, she has decided that her future child will not be part of her public image or online content.
Temi added that her child did not choose to live a public life, so she does not see a reason to expose them to social media.

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan after activating the defender’s reported €20 million release clause.
The Spanish giants confirmed on Sunday that Denzel Dumfries has signed a four-year contract that will keep him at the club until 30 June 2030.
“Real Madrid and Inter Milan have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Denzel Dumfries, who will be linked to our club for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030,” Madrid said in a statement.
The 30-year-old arrives after four successful seasons at Inter, where he made 207 appearances, scored 27 goals and won eight major trophies following his move from PSV Eindhoven in 2021.
Inter paid tribute to the Netherlands international in a farewell message, saying: “Five years of simply beautiful things: The love and affection from the fans was always repaid with determination and grit on the pitch.
