We Will Pay Close Attention To Nigeria’s 2027 Election – United States Congressman

A United States Congressman, Rep Riley Moore, has stated that the United States will closely monitor the 2027 election.

Naija News reports that Moore made the remark during an interview on Noire TV on Saturday.

When asked whether he was aware of the forthcoming election in Nigeria and if there was anything the United States could do to provide political support, the congressman said, “We will be paying close attention to Nigeria’s 2027 election.”

He added that the United States would be watching the outcome of the polls and the manner in which they are conducted.

“We are certainly going to be watching these results and how these elections will unfold and how they are executed and that something that myself and my administration will pay very close attention too,” he said.

Meanwhile, the National Spokesman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has expressed fears that the 2027 general elections may not hold.

Naija News reports that Abdullahi made this known during an interview with The Sun, attributing his fears to certain endemic factors within both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.

According to him, the hunger created by President Bola Tinubu’s administration is another reason many people may not come out to exercise their franchise, and might lead to rigging.

Abdullahi also cited insecurity, which, according to him, may create situations where the election will not hold in many parts of the country.

He said, “There is so much procurement INEC usually embarks on. A lot of them are offshore, outside the country. If by now INEC has not received funding for those procurements or has not been able to do those procurements, then the election is threatened. That is my number one fear.

“I am worried that INEC may not be ready for the election, whether deliberately or inadvertently. I have serious fear that INEC may not be ready for the election.

“They may rig the election and tell people to go to court, thinking that politicians will go to court, and that they will live happily thereafter.”
