2026 FIFA World Cup: Round Of 16 Fixtures, Qualified Teams, Kick-off Time, Venues

The knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup gets underway later today, July 4, as the 16 remaining countries battle for places in the quarter-finals.

Naija News reports that Canada were the first side to book their place in the World Cup round of 16 after beating South Africa 1-0 on June 28. They are now joined by Brazil, Paraguay, Morocco, Norway, France, Mexico, England, Belgium, the United States, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Egypt, Argentina and Colombia in the last 16.

The qualified teams reached the knockout phase after the following results: Canada beat South Africa 1-0, Brazil defeated Japan 2-1, Paraguay knocked out Germany 4-3 on penalties, Morocco overcame the Netherlands 3-2 on penalties, Norway beat Ivory Coast 2-1, France defeated Sweden 3-0, Mexico saw off Ecuador 2-0, England overcame DR Congo 2-1, Belgium defeated Senegal 3-2, the United States beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0, Spain eased past Austria 3-0, Portugal edged Croatia 2-1, Switzerland defeated Algeria 2-0, Egypt beat Australia 4-2 on penalties, Argentina overcame Cape Verde 3-2 and Colombia defeated Ghana 1-0.
