‘Abduction Of Oyo School Children, Teachers Caused By Makinde’ – Fayose
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has insisted that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, was not proactive enough in tackling insecurity in the state.
Naija News reports that Fayose spoke during an interview on Arise News, where he maintained that governors had the primary responsibility to coordinate security efforts within their states.
Fayose said that although the Federal Government could play a supporting role, state governors had the authority and resources to mobilise security agencies, gather intelligence and respond to threats.
“I stand by my words. Seyi Makinde was not proactive enough. The abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo is a problem caused by Governor Seyi Makinde.
“It is the responsibility of the state government to mobilise the police. It is also its responsibility to manage the security network in the state,” he said.
The former governor also alleged that kidnapping had become commercialised in parts of the country, claiming that some public officials and family members had been linked to abductions for financial gain.
He said his criticism of the Oyo State Government followed his assessment of its response to kidnapping incidents around Ogbomoso.
Fayose recalled that during his tenure as Ekiti governor, he enforced strict anti-open-grazing measures, including restrictions on cattle movement at night.
He argued that state governments had the capacity to implement policies to protect lives and livelihoods.
Fayose also defended his earlier comments on the installation of traditional rulers in Oyo State, saying leaders, whether serving or former governors, must be open to criticism.
