NUC Approves New Courses For FUNAAB
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved six new undergraduate programmes for the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAA).
The approval takes effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.
Naija News reports that the development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations, Olasunkanmi Olajide.
According to the statement, the approval followed a successful resource assessment visit by the NUC to determine the university’s readiness for the new programmes.
The commission evaluated the availability of required human and material resources before granting approval.
“In a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Executive Secretary of the NUC conveyed the Commission’s approval for the establishment of the programmes after a thorough consideration of the outcome of the resource assessment exercise,” the statement read.
The newly approved full-time undergraduate programmes are Bachelor of Science in Geophysics, Public Health, Biotechnology, Science Laboratory Technology, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, and Clothing and Textile.
The university said the approval marked another milestone in its efforts to expand academic offerings, support manpower development and respond to emerging national and global needs in science, technology, health and sustainable development.
“With the addition of the six programmes, the University is further strengthening its reputation as a leading institution dedicated to academic excellence, innovation, and the production of highly skilled graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national development,” the statement added.
FUNAAB said the approval reaffirmed its commitment to producing skilled graduates for critical sectors of the economy.
