‘You Need Schooling’ – Presidency Knocks Peter Obi Over Call For Tinubu’s Resignation

The Presidency has criticised former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, over his call for President Bola Tinubu to resign, describing the demand as reckless and lacking constitutional understanding.

In a statement on Tuesday morning, the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to the President, Sunday Dare, said Obi’s latest comment was not the intervention of a statesman but “the outburst of a politician” unable to distinguish between political opposition and constitutional reality.

Naija News reports that Dare said Nigeria operates a constitutional presidential democracy where presidents are elected for fixed terms and can only leave office through elections, constitutional processes, incapacity or the expiration of their mandate.

“Nigeria is not a parliamentary system where governments rise and fall on votes of confidence. Nigeria is a constitutional presidential democracy,” he said.

He added that Obi, as a former governor and presidential candidate, should understand the constitutional foundations of the office he seeks to occupy.

The presidential aide accused Obi of embracing what he described as pessimism, alarmism and repeated declarations of national collapse.

According to him, Obi has moved away from the measured image that once earned him admiration among some Nigerians.

“His politics has become a politics of selective outrage,” Dare said.

He argued that while Obi frequently criticises the administration over national challenges, he allegedly ignores progress in areas such as economic growth, foreign reserves, revenue improvement, infrastructure and security operations.

Dare said leadership is measured by judgment, composure and the ability to offer solutions, not by constant criticism.

“A serious national leader acknowledges both challenges and progress. A serious leader offers alternatives,” he said.

He added that the presidency was not an activist platform, protest movement or “permanent grievance machine.”

The presidential aide said Obi’s call for Tinubu’s resignation had weakened his own presidential credentials.

By calling for President Tinubu’s resignation, Peter Obi has done more damage to his own presidential credentials than any political opponent could have done,” Dare said.

He added that Obi must decide whether he wants to be taken seriously as a contender for power or remain a critic of those in office.
