‘Era Of Neglect Is Over, My Gov’t Listens’ – Says Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has said his administration will continue to listen, plan and deliver on its promises to Nigerians, declaring that the era of neglecting satellite towns in the Federal Capital Territory is over.
Naija News reports that Tinubu spoke during the commissioning of the Water Supply Network to Karu Satellite Town and its environs, one of the projects unveiled to mark the third anniversary of his administration.
The President said the project was a demonstration of his government’s commitment to extending basic infrastructure beyond the city centre to communities where many residents of the FCT live and work.
Tinubu said his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda was anchored on inclusive development and the delivery of life-changing projects to ordinary Nigerians.
He said, “It’s with a deep sense of fulfilment and gratitude that I stand with you to commission the water supply network to Karu and its environs.
“Today, we declare that the era of neglect of our satellite towns is officially over. When we launched the Renewed Hope Agenda, we made a sacred covenant with the Nigerian people. We promised that governance will no longer be a theatrical exercise confined to the boardrooms of the city centres while our people in the periphery struggle for basic amenities.
“We promised a government that listens, plans, and crucially, that delivers.”
The President recalled that during the commissioning of the Abuja Greater Water Supply project, he directed that the benefits of the project must extend to satellite towns and not remain limited to elite districts.
“Just a year ago, when we commissioned the Abuja Greater Water Supply project, I stood before the nation and gave a directive. I said the metropolitan loops must not end in the elite districts; they must extend into the satellite towns where the heartbeat of Abuja’s working population resides,” he added.
Tinubu said his administration did not hesitate to approve the Karu water project when it was presented by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, because access to clean water is central to health, dignity and economic progress.
He said, “When Wike brought the proposal for the Karu Water Supply project, we did not hesitate because we knew that water is life and denying our people clean water is denying them health, dignity, and economic progress.”
According to him, the government ensured timely funding of the project to avoid bureaucratic delays and ensure prompt delivery by the contractor, CGC Nigeria.
“To show our unwavering commitment, we did not allow the traditional shackles of bureaucratic delays to obstruct its execution. Because we paid on time, the contractor, CGC Nigeria, worked on time.
“Today, we are commissioning 194 kilometres of secondary and tertiary pipeline networks, bringing treated, safe, and potable water to the doorsteps of Karu, Orozo, Jikwoyi, Kuruduru, and surrounding communities,” he said.
Tinubu Praises Wike
The President also commended Wike for what he described as his impactful leadership in the FCT, describing him as “Mr Project” of the administration.
“Let me take a moment to commend the Mr Project of our administration, Wike. Leadership is not measured by the eloquence of television commentaries or the bitterness of empty criticism, but leadership is measured by tangible and verifiable impact on ordinary citizens,” Tinubu added.
He said the completion of the project reflected the administration’s determination to make governance meaningful to residents, especially those in communities that had long suffered inadequate access to basic amenities.
