‘Sowore’s Arrest Is A Disgrace, Show Of Shame By DSS’ – Timi Frank

Former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has described the arrest of the 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, by the Department of State Services (DSS) as a national disgrace and show of shame.

Naija News recalls that Justice Mohammed Garba Umar, in a ruling on Monday, ordered that Sowore be remanded pending the hearing and determination of his motion seeking a stay of execution of the order revoking his bail and the issuance of a bench warrant against him.

Sowore is being prosecuted over allegations that he made false claims against President Bola Tinubu by referring to him as “a criminal” in posts on his social media accounts.

Reacting to the development, Frank, in a statement on Tuesday, demanded the immediate release of Sowore, stressing he had committed no offense warranting arrest or detention.

He alleged that the arrest was politically motivated and part of a broader agenda by the federal government to intimidate opposition figures and others against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to him, the continued deployment of security agencies against dissenting voices clearly indicates that the government is becoming increasingly intolerant of criticism and democratic opposition.

He said, “The arrest of Omoyele Sowore is a disgrace and a show of shame by the DSS. It is nothing but political victimisation and a desperate attempt to intimidate opposition leaders and silence voices of dissent in the country.

“Sowore has not committed any offense. He merely exercised his constitutional right to speak on issues affecting Nigerians. If the government disagrees with his views, it should respond with facts and good governance, not harassment and intimidation.”
