Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes First Player To Score In Six Successive FIFA World Cups

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player in football history to score in six successive FIFA World Cups after finding the net for Portugal in their Group K clash against Uzbekistan earlier today, June 23.

Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, scored in the sixth minute in Houston, capping off a slick Portuguese move to register another milestone in a glittering international career. Joao Cancelo drove down the right flank before delivering a low pass into the area, where Ronaldo peeled away from his marker and fired beyond goalkeeper Abduvokhid Nematov to hand Portugal an early lead.

Ronaldo celebrated with teammates before treating supporters to his trademark “Siiiu!” celebration as Portugal took control of a match they needed to win. Victory would move the Portuguese closer to qualification for the knockout stage, while defeat threatened to end Uzbekistan’s campaign.

The goal was Ronaldo’s ninth at the FIFA World Cup and his first since converting a penalty against Ghana in Portugal’s opening match of the 2022 tournament. It also came just days after the veteran forward faced criticism following Portugal’s 1-1 draw with DR Congo in their opening fixture.

Playing in a record sixth World Cup, Ronaldo is already the oldest outfield player to start a match at the tournament. He first made history in Qatar four years ago when he became the first player to score in five different World Cups, a record later matched by Argentine captain Lionel Messi.

The Portugal captain was not finished. Later in the match, Bruno Fernandes picked him out inside the penalty area and Ronaldo calmly buried his effort into the bottom-left corner to extend Portugal’s advantage to 3-0.

Naija News gathered that Ronaldo entered the 2026 World Cup with 143 goals in 228 international appearances.
