Only Peter Obi Can Give Us Directives – Obidient Movement Speaks On NDC Campaign Policy

The Obidient Movement has dismissed claims that a recent directive by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on campaign financing and the regulation of affiliated groups was intended to curtail their activities.

Speaking with Punch, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, said the movement remained a volunteer-driven organisation whose direction ultimately rests with its leader, Peter Obi.

Tanko stated that the Movement has no interest in a public spat with the NDC over its policy, adding that Obi has also not reacted to the development.

He said, “We are not out to join issue with anybody. The Obidient is a voluntary organisation, and we have been sustaining ourselves as volunteers. The only person who can give directives on what he wants with his movement is the leader of the movement, Peter Obi.

“He is the leader of the Obidient Movement. Anything he says, we follow. But for now, he has not even reacted to it.

“Remember, there was an attempt like that to bring the Obidient Movement under the Labour Party, which he came out and made a statement. We are guided by that. The movement is not about an individual. It’s a collective interest.

“Today, I’m a national coordinator. Tomorrow, I may be out of that place. It continues. It’s not about me. But he is the leader of the movement. He decides what happens to the movement that he is leading. We are only coordinating for him.”

Naija News reports that the NDC had earlier declared that it would not operate as a “personality cult” or a special purpose vehicle that could be “used and discarded.”

The party warned that all groups and non-governmental organisations associated with the party must operate under its guidance and control and should not function independently of its established structures.
