No Soldier Killed As Troops Repel ISWAP Attack In Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attack by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the Buratai axis of Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

The insurgents were said to have suffered significant losses in fighters and equipment during the failed attack, which occurred on Friday morning.

The terrorists reportedly launched coordinated attacks on troops’ locations at Dusten Kura and Chara Road in the Buratai axis, but were met with superior firepower from ground troops backed by air support.

Naija News reports that the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, June 19.

Goni said the troops, acting on robust intelligence, promptly detected the movement of the insurgents and responded with a coordinated air and ground counter-attack.

He said the effective deployment of the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, especially Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance assets, as well as precision strike platforms of the Nigerian Air Force, played a decisive role in repelling the attack.

“The precision air support integrated seamlessly with ground forces, disrupted the terrorists’ assault and inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers, forcing them to flee in confusion,” Goni said.

“It is worthy to note that no casualties were recorded on own troops, while the terrorists suffered significant losses in personnel and equipment.”

Goni said the latest success reflected the high level of readiness of troops in the theatre and the strong coordination between the ground and air components of the operation.

According to him, the Theatre Command remains committed to denying terrorists freedom of action and protecting law-abiding citizens across the North-East.

He added that troops would continue aggressive offensive operations aimed at degrading the capabilities of terrorist groups and restoring lasting peace to the region.

The military also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.

Goni said such cooperation remained crucial to ongoing efforts to defeat insurgents and secure communities in Borno and other parts of the North-East.

He assured the public that troops of Operation Hadin Kai would sustain pressure on terrorists and prevent them from carrying out attacks on civilians and military formations.
