Bribery Allegation: I’m Taking Kenneth Okonkwo To Court So He Can Expose Me Publicly – Peter Obi
Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Obi has said he will go ahead with a defamation case against Kenneth Okonkwo over claims linked to alleged corruption during party primary elections.
Naija News reports that Obi spoke on Tuesday in an interview on Nevon Media with Oseni Rufai.
He explained that the legal action became necessary after Okonkwo made strong accusations against him and also alleged there were more claims he planned to reveal later.
Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), had earlier alleged on national television that some House of Representatives aspirants were forced to pay a large sum of money to secure party tickets.
He also claimed that Obi played a central role in the process and accused him of picking candidates outside the primary election held in a hotel in Abuja.
In response, Obi maintained that he is ready to face the matter in court.
The former Anambra Governor said that if anyone has evidence of wrongdoing against him, it should be presented before a judge rather than made in public discussions.
He said: “The issue of taking Kenneth Okonkwo to court wouldn’t have arisen if he had stopped at those allegations. But he claimed he still has more he would expose about me in the future.
“So I am very happy to take him to court so that he can expose me publicly, alongside other Nigerians. If any of them has any crim!nal allegations against me, they should bring it to court.”
