Christians Attacked Me For Playing Lesbian Role In Blood Sisters – Blessing Nze

Nollywood actress Blessing Nze Obasi has opened up about the criticism she faced from some Christians following her portrayal of a lesbian inmate in the second season of Blood Sisters.

Speaking during an interview with Yanga FM, the actress said many people failed to separate her profession from her personal beliefs.

According to her, acting involves taking on different characters and should not be mistaken for an actor’s real-life values or lifestyle.

Naija News reports that Obasi explained that the role was created to reflect realities that exist in society and within prison environments.

She said the storyline was inspired by real-life situations and was not designed to encourage or support same-sex relationships.

Rather, she noted that the production aimed to tell a story based on events that occur in certain settings.

She said: “We are telling a real story about things that truly happen. The Christians came for me and attacked. They said ‘as a child of God how would i take such role’ and i said ‘we are telling real stories of what happens in the prison. However the production company was sensitive enough not to depict the horridness of it. They are not in support of it (lesbianism) but they are telling the story. There is so much positivity. I put my mind on that.”
