Court Sentences Hauwa’u Mukhtar To Death By Hanging For Helping Terrorists

A Federal High Court in Katsina State has sentenced one Hauwa’u Mukhtar to death by hanging for serving as a courier for a known terrorist leader.

The Department of State Services (DSS), had instituted a case against her for conspiracy to commit terrorism and aiding and abetting terrorism.

Naija News understands that Mukhtar was arrested by the DSS on September 16, 2023, at Jibia Motor Park, Katsina State, while attempting to transport 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition to one Ado, a notorious bandit kingpin operating within Dunburum Forest, Zamfara State.

Security sources revealed that the DSS filed a two-count charge against the suspect before High Court No. 3, Katsina, in Suit No. KTH/65C/2023, presided over by Justice A. B. Bawale.

Delivering judgment, the Judge held that based on the totality of evidence, witness testimonies, tendered exhibits, and final addresses of both prosecution and defence counsel, the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, finding Mukhtar guilty on both counts.

Justice Bawale subsequently sentenced the convict to death by hanging in accordance with the provisions of the Penal Code Law of Katsina State, 2021.

Naija News reports that recently, Justice Binta Fatimah Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced a man, Isa Isiaka, to 20 years’ imprisonment for failing to disclose information on the activities of Boko Haram to the Federal Government.

Isiaka, a father of 11 children and husband of two wives, was sentenced after pleading guilty to terrorism-related charges filed against him by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

The court held that his deliberate refusal to provide information that could have assisted security agencies in apprehending members of the proscribed terrorist group was a serious offence.

The charge was instituted against Isiaka by the Federal Government through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

When the charge was read to him in court, the defendant admitted guilt without wasting the time of the court.
